Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Baldini and I am a sophomore at Slippery Rock University. I am currently studying to get my bachelors of science in communications with a focus on integrated marketing. One thing I’m extremely passionate about, if you couldn’t tell already, is sharks. I find them to be really interesting creatures. They are determined, passionate, and go after what they want, just like me. Despite being an integrated marketing major, I am taking this new media journalism class because with the rapid advancement of technology, journalism is ever changing to keep up with the times. I want to learn about this changing world and keep up to date with it. Since I am so interested with the rapid change that journalism is going through, The New York Times is a big influence for me. The New York Times has been changing constantly these past two years to keep up with more modern journalism, and isn’t slowing down. Another, more recent influence I have is Buzzfeed. Now I’m sure you probably hear a lot of people in my generation say they like Buzzfeed, but hear me out. Buzzfeed has been one of the only news sites that I have consistently went to to look at news for leisure. There’s a reason so many people in my generation say they like it. Buzzfeed started in 2006 which is way sooner than other organizations. Buzzfeed came into the game at a time when journalism was changing, so they didn’t have a hard time adjusting their ways compared to a news source that has been around for decades. Buzzfeed might be an easy news source to critique, but there’s no denying they have a great retention strategy.

Did you see the article on CBS about a 300 year old shark head found in a Kentucky cave?
